A Pediatrician Gives Advice

Ever wished you had a pediatrician you could call every time you had medical questions about your baby or toddler?

Do you need reassurance about your infant's health?

Do you want peace of mind that you're doing the right thing when your toddler's not well?

Hi, I'm Dr Maud - an experienced pediatric specialist / pediatrician. I will provide you with easy-to-understand, up-to-date health information and practical medical advice about your infant or toddler.

As well as working in hospital wards and outpatient clinics as a specialist pediatrician where I routinely care for infants and toddlers and respond to questions about their care from their parents, I am also responding to medical questions from my family and friends all the time. This site contains the information that I give as a pediatrician about common conditions seen in infants and toddlers.

The toddler and baby medical information is provided in an easy-to-read question and answer format. I answer the questions that parents most often ask me about when I see their children with these conditions.

Most parents using the internet are smart and busy. They don't want the textbook version - they can get that themselves. They want a plain language explanation and considered advice. That's what this site provides - read what other visitors have said on the right. To read more about using the site, click here.

To search for an answer to your question on this site, enter your question in the search box below.

If you can't find the answer to your question on the site, you can put a request for a page on that particular problem to me, the pediatrician, and depending on the question's suitability to the site, I will endeavour to provide that information on the site. Go to Ask Dr Maud.

Parents who have already had peace of mind with answers to their questions to the pediatrician have said this:

  • Thank you Dr. Maud!
You rock! My mind is at ease with the information that you have provided.
    Kim
  • Dr Maud,
Thank you so much for the info. I just called my brother to let him know what you had to say. We all feel much better. The doctors are doing a great job, but it is nice to get a second opinion.....
    Sincerely,
    Virginia

On this site:

  • all spelling is in US English - it looks more like it sounds that way and so for convenience, that's the spelling I use on this site. In every day practice, I actually use British (UK) English - so I'm a paediatrician (not pediatrician!) where I work - and I have a page where you can compare the US and UK spelling of words. The information stays the same even though the condition may be spelt differently. Diarrhea looks (and smells!!) the same even when it's spelt diarrhoea.

Go to US - UK spelling page Opens in a new window.

  • I use either male or female in the answers to medical questions. So some answers have he and him, and some answers have she and her. I think it is reads easier than he/she and him/her. The answers generally apply to either sex.
  • I've addressed the symptoms that your baby or toddler might have and then I explain possible causes, rather than have the site arranged by diseases. Hopefully, this will make it easier for you to find your way around. If you want to look for information on a disease, you can go to Site Search box at the bottom of the navigation bar on the left and search directly rather than navigating the symptoms.
  • the information given is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for medical care from your health practitioner. The answers given are general and cannot cover every eventuality. However, I have tried to cover the most common medical questions that parents ask me about their babies and toddlers and I hope you will find the information given helpful.

Remember, if you don't find an answer to your question on the site, complete the form on the Ask Dr Maud page and depending on demand and suitability, I'll consider writing a page on that problem. Go to Ask Dr Maud

Thank you so much. I have taken ... to three different Dr.'s and you are the first to answer my questions in a manner that I can understand. You explained everything in English for once, and told me things that none of the other Dr.'s did. Thank you again. I really appreciate your help. Machelle, United States
